Whether you’re in search of an opportunity to escape the cold for a beach holiday or have already put up your Christmas tree, you can’t hide from the fact that winter is officially upon us. For me, this much-awaited transition to cold weather fashion could not have come soon enough. In the colder months, the re-emergence of certain pieces (i.e. boots, coats) are pretty inevitable. However, I love to be kept on my sartorial toes, and this season’s boots and coats particularly integrate elements of peculiarity. If you’ve been following my website or socials for a while then you will already know of my constant attempt to transcend fashion boundaries. I always say that if everyone likes the way I dress then I’m not doing enough. So actually I embrace the horrified twitter replies whenever I wear clogs or layer 2 different handbags. This season’s trends encapsulated everything I like from a fashion statement – confidence and eccentricity. So keep scrolling to find out the Fall/Winter ‘18 trends that I can’t wait to experiment with.

During the Autumn/Winter 2018 Paris Fashion Week, “protection” was the buzzword circulating around all the shows. By discussing the idea of clothes as “armour,” designers such as Balenciaga and Chanel introduced a new approach to autumn layering. This season, puffer coats also got a makeover by incorporating feminine touches and detailed tailoring. A vibrant, oversized puffer coat like the one I’m wearing below is exactly the kind of bold “protection” I’ll be channelling all winter.
Zebra or tiger, cheetah or leopard, snake or crocodile – animal prints are in this season! This fashion-forward trend was seen in collections as differing as Victoria Beckham and Ashley Williams. Whether you opt for a silk, snakeskin blouse or faux leopard-print from head to toe, you’re guaranteed to turn heads with this wild trend.

The reigning textile this season? Leather. From Hermes’ sophisticated ankle-length skirt to the striking forest-green leather jacket debuted by Givenchy, I can’t get enough of the versatility and timelessness of leather. I especially loved the alluring, ankle-length leather dress I saw at the Loewe A/W 18/19 Fashion Show. If Loewe approves, so do I.

We often associate tweed with the “hyper-elegance” displayed at Chanel shows. Yet this season, designers showed tweed as something more unexpected. Tweed was the used fabric for a sporty roll-neck, a leather skirt, and a structural dress. This only shows that tweed is no longer a symbol for your grandma’s church clothes or Coco Chanel’s legacy. Dare I say that tweed has been given a millennial renaissance.
