Last night I attended the reopening of the Bulgari store on New Bond Street. The streets of Mayfair were shut down (literally) to welcome guests as they arrived. Red carpets were rolled out and press boards put up, and I repeatedly forgot that the cocktail party I was enjoying was in the middle of a London street! Don’t worry I’ll get to the jewels soon…
As champagne flowed and we all waited for the grand opening outside, I couldn’t help but be thankful for a clear and surprisingly warm night in London as I had opted for bare legs. Suddenly the lights dimmed, music played and a beautiful video played overhead on a screen. Then it was time for the former First lady of France herself, Carla Bruni, alongside Bulgari CEO, Jean-Christophe Babin, to cut the ribbon. The shop windows opened and that’s when the real drama began.
The store is a jewel in itself. The Roman architectural style is still evident but architect, Peter Marino, also added classic Palladian details to the VIP suites on the second floor. The store interior wonderfully framed the majestic jewellery that shone from every angle. Alongside portraits of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were emeralds and diamonds in every shape, form and size. What was my favourite part of the evening? The musical entertainment, including a performance by Italian opera singer Carmen Giannattasio and a DJ set by the beautiful Hen Yanni.
