Last Friday I attended the opening of the new Dover Street Market on Haymarket Street. The multi-brand store moved from its old location into a new space with 5 floors (yes!) and a new café. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Filled with kitschy sculptural works and art installations, the space is entirely unique to any other shopping space in London.
What was my favourite part? Without a doubt the independently branded areas denoted to brands including Raf Simons and JW Anderson. Did I mention Raf was in attendance, along with fashion royalty Molly Goddard, Christopher Bailey and Suzy Menkes. Honestly, the only downside to the outing was that the camouflage Palace trousers I spent most of my time coveting were already sold out in my size.
The new space is extensively diverse and there is honestly something for everyone. Even if you wouldn’t cast Dover Street Market (DSM for all you cool kids) as your usual aesthetic you will quickly find yourself drooling over a Junya Watanabe tunic or a Comme de Garçons leather jacket. It’s unquestionably worth the trip, just expect to spend hours fawning over clothes and taking many, many snaps of the beautifully curated artworks.
